Flute Boot Camp
open to entering 5th-12th graders
(must have already played flute for a minimum of one year)
This camp builds upon flutists' existing skills to help bring them to the next level in confidence and flute playing. Attention is focused on effective home practice, performance skills, developing a mature flute tone, and introducing musical opportunities in the community.
Sessions are different each year to keep it interesting for our many return campers. Campers participate in some activities as a whole group, and divide up by age/playing level for workshops and rehearsals.
Students plan and present a performance Friday immediately after the camp.

Camp instructors Elizabeth Samse and Mariya Lincoln launched Flute Boot Camp six years ago because they saw the need for an opportunity such as this on the Eastside: a week to motivate you on your musical journey, help prepare you for fall auditions, and give an in-depth flute experience not possible in band class or weekly lessons. Sessions are different each year to allow camp alumni to return and continue to grow as musicians.
What's it like?
You'll be playing music, moving around, and learning to fine-tune your ear and your practice routine- while connecting with others who enjoy playing music. There is a balance of flute-specific learning and wider music exploration. Flute playing is interspersed with active movement and quieter activities to balance the week. Younger and older campers are paired in mentoring relationships that benefit both.
