What auditions are you preparing students for? What if my child doesn't have an audition coming up and just loves the flute?
Fall auditions in the area include Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra, All-State and Junior All-State. We will cover material directly relating to these auditions but will spend plenty of time on topics that will prepare students for ANY audition or performance situation. Our main goal is to provide an in-depth learning environment where campers will grow in confidence, ability, and enthusiasm for playing the flute.
How will you address the wide range of ages, playing abilities, and goals of students?
With two instructors, sessions will be divided by age/grade for some sessions, and by competitive/non-competitive track for others. Some sessions will cover material applicable to all attendees. Ensembles will be formed based on playing ability and experience. Younger and older students both benefit from mentoring relationships.
"Boot Camp" sounds pretty intense. I don't know if my son / daughter will be up for all that playing. Will s/he get tired and bored?
No "basic training" style drills will be going on here. While many of the activities do involve playing the flute, we intersperse games, discussion, breaks and fun stuff, so campers are not playing intensively over a long period of time.
Will the students be performing?
Yes! Students will have the chance to share the ensemble music they worked on during the week, as well as present some of what they've learned to parents and other fans. The performance take place at the end of camp week.
